The Canadian Initiative on Workplace Violence

Welcome to the official website of the Canadian Initiative on Workplace Violence, known also as the "Canadian Initiative". The Canadian Initiative was incorporated in 1999, at a time when concerns about workplace violence were receiving only passing notice. These early efforts to raise awareness demonstrates our long-standing commitment to the study of workplace violence, and set us apart from the many consultants who recently have joined the field with the sole purpose of selling a product or service.

Our objective over the years has remained largely unchanged, which is to provide you and/or your organization with the information and tools necessary to reduce, if not eliminate, workplace violence and harassment at its source. We believe that every Canadian has the unalienable right to report for work without the fear of physical harm or abuse.

In support of this objective, our site was designed with you in mind, whether you are a student, human resource professional, manager, lawyer or perhaps a victim of violence yourself. Our intent is to provide you with a single point of entry into the complex field of workplace violence from a Canadian perspective. We are mindful that no one site can answer all of your questions, and in recognition of this, we have provided you with links to other sites which we believe are excellent sources of information.

As a social research firm, with the mandate to distribute information, we are interested in your opinions and experiences. We believe strongly in our collective responsibility to share information for the common good. To meet this goal, we encourage you to participate constructively in the forums and surveys provided. If you are aware of a web site or other resource that you think could benefit others, we would be pleased to hear from you. It is through this combined effort that we hope to arrive at a more complete understanding of this complex and menacing issue.

Again, thank you for visiting our site and we hope you return regularly, as the site is refreshed as new information becomes available. We would also be pleased to hear from you regarding your experience, thoughts and suggestions.
